Cpl Reginald Campbell - KIA Sarawak

1964 Corporal Reginald CHAPPELL: Service Number RM 15686 of 42 Commando RM. He

was killed in action during the Confrontation with Indonesia. He was shot whilst approaching a

house where his section were to set up an ambush.


Extract from the Daily Mirror - Saturday 22 February 1964


"A Royal Marine Corporal was shot dead and four other British soldiers were wounded by terrorists in Sarawak, an Army spokesman said in Singapore yesterday. The British were checking identity cards in a border farmhouse, when the terrorists pounced. Fighting back, the wounded inflicted casualties. All the British belonged to No. 42 Commando. One of the wounded is Marine P. B. Howes, of Exmouth."


His body was repatriated to the UK with local people from Great Barr, West Bromwich, helping the family fund the cost.
